Designing Filters
Filters can be really simple, such as the All Items
filter that shows every single TaskMerlin item and folder in a long list.
Or they can be as advanced as you like, with different logical criteria
within the one search. One of the most used is the To Do Today filter -
double-click on it to view it's contents.
Filter Properties
Unless you've already changed it, this is set up by default to show every item that
has:
- Been assigned to you
- Does not have a due date, or has a due date of today or earlier
- Is not already completed
- Is not a folder
This filter is great for finding lists of things that should be done
today. If you don't tend to add start dates or due dates, then everything
will appear at first. If there are way too many things in the list, you can
edit the items and set the start or due date to tomorrow (or
later). This means those items will disappear from your To Do Today
list until tomorrow (or later), when they will show up in your list again.
You can also make a filter more complex - to exclude
tasks filed under certain folders, or with certain statuses such as Pending or
Cancelled.
Filter Properties
To add your own criteria, click on the Add row button. To
specify a criterion, first
select the column you are interested in from the Column dropdown list
(e.g., Status). Next select from the Function dropdown
list (e.g., "Is not one of"). Finally, select from the Value dropdown
list (e.g., Cancelled, Completed) or, for some columns, enter text into the
Value text box (e.g., "My first folder"). For each row you add, a different criterion
can be specified. When you are finished, click on OK to save the filter.
